Dec 31, 2020 Why Cockiteils Exhibit Egg Laying Behaviors by: Jeffrey Cockatiels show behavioral and physical cues when they are about to lay eggs. The clues are short lived since eggs move in a matter of days from the ovary to the nest. The eggs weight more than the bird normally does, causing weight gain. Females drink more water during this process and may stand differently prior to eggs being released from the body. Signs include increased singing and raised tail feathers. A female can lay eggs every 48 hours, in batches up to 8 eggs, which is called a clutch. Breeding is stimulated by factors such as more daylight and more rain.
