Q & A For Your Pet Bird
Welcome to my parrot blog page. My name is Jill and I plan to post frequent tid-bits of information here. I hope you find them useful. Please note that information on these pages is presented as I see it, from my experience. I am not an avian veterinarian nor avian behaviorist. I cannot be responsible for results you might experience. You should consult a licensed veterinarian for professional advice.
January 1, 2005I named my company A Step Up Bird Company because one of the first things you can teach your bird, is to respond to the "Up" command. Many birds will readily step up on your hand or arm, but some may require a wooden or metal perch. Regardless, they will learn that when asked to step up, you have control and they will learn to trust you.
January 15, 2005Every bird is different and if you want one that is just right for you there are some questions you need to ask yourself. You have to consider if you can have a parrot, that it might be quite loud on occasion. There are many birds that are not that noisy. There are so many choices. Cost is another consideration. Most birds are expensive and if you invest in one, you have to realize you will probably need to spend as much on their cage, food and toys. Then the other thing to consider is veterinary expenses. Birds can be wonderful pets and they will reward you with many years of joy, as many parrots can live into their twenties and some can live past their fifties. That is why parrot ownership needs to be considered carefully. You just might be getting a friend for life.

Here's a question for our parrot blog, from Linda in West Virginia:
after they lay thier eggs. what do you do and how
is baby birds raised ...
Linda: Thank you for writing, but I need to know what type of birds you have before I can answer the question. I do have information on breeding budgies (parakeets) on my
budgies page (click here)
and information about cockatiels on my
blog page (click here)
. If you have either one of these types of birds, you might check these. If you have another type of bird, please write me back and let me know and I will see if I can give you more information. Thanks for joining our parrot blog.
