loss and interaction in a separate room
Hello! I have one parakeet who just recently lost her older cage mate. She is grieving and very skittish.I never hand trained my birds, I gave them each other for company. She is middle-aged and I want to help her to be happy and healthy in spite of the loss.
The problem is this: she needs to be in a separate room because my cats WILL try to eat her if she is in the general household. This is a room that was, and is, strictly for birds. My interaction with her so far has been limited to care and feeding as I am concerned about her anxiety. I can't find a place near where I live where I might get her another companion. I am all she has now.
My question is this: How much time does she need from me in order to be happy and secure? Are there things I can do to help her overcome the loss she has had? She was with her companion for her entire life and I feel so badly for her and want to help!
Can you help me help her?
