compare african grey parrots to yellow headed amazon
by: Elizabeth Barrie

Jailan,
African Grey's have an uncanny ability to talk. Their voice sounds as crisp as a human's. They are highly intelligent. This is also true of the yellow headed Amazon. What ensures their ability to talk and have a large vocabulary is how much time you spend with the parrot. I've heard some Greys and Amazons who have little interaction with their owners hardly even whistle.

Let your parrot out all day if you can. Spend as much time as possible with your majestic parrot/companion. They are like 2 year olds and will often follow you around. Even if you can't be with them all day, leave the T.V. or radio on. Or those recorded sounds of running water, lightning, a trickling brook or other birds. They will imitate your microwave, and give you a wave.

They live 70 to 80 years so don't take on parrots of these kinds without realizing the commitment on your part. If you want a lifetime companion, then you will be pleased.

I also have to add these parrots are so often given away for a few different reasons.
1. Make sure these species are hand fed as babies, this will make for a far less anxious parrot!
2. Don't place unrealistic expectations on the parrot bonding with you right away, or talking too quickly ( it breaks my heart that so many are given away due to this!)
3.Realize what a huge responsibility you're taking on, in the patience department. If you just want a parrot as a novelty and tire of it, the parrot will grieve for years for you.

I hope we could be of some help to you and please let us know what type of parrot you chose. If you have any more questions, please let us know.

Thank You,
Elizabeth
